Lt. Jen Lee

"The Snake People"

Stardate 9902.10

Lieutenant Jen Lee sits at her desk, head in her hands, not looking at the tiny video camera recording her log. "My brain has turned to jelly, and I am not sure any of this is going to make sense. Maybe in the future, after much meditation, I can come to grips with all that has happened in the last twenty-four hours."

Raking her fingers through her disarrayed hair, she attempts to make enough coherent thoughts to accurately portray the goings-on in the cave. "OK. Lt. Quell was ... I don't know ... sucked into the crystals. That's the only way to put it. At that time, I was up above near the cave entrance, trying to calm our native friend. She was going on and on about the 'snake people' who have fire in their hands. Boy, was she right. Anyway, that's later."

"When I got notice that Quell was temporarily out of commission, I was put in charge of the away team in order to attempt to free him. After cajoling the native (from here on out ... let's just call her Mary for no reason other than I feel she needs a name) to come down by the crystals with me, I set about attempting to figure out how to get Quell out."

"I was able to use the tricorder to find his particular energy signal, and beam him up to sickbay for analysis. Just as that was going on, Mary started screaming about the 'snake people' being there, and Maarek opened fire on some shadows."

Craning her neck back and forth, and rubbing her neck, Jen tries to slow down her thought processes to be able to speak about all that happened at that moment. "Though Maarek and I didn't see anything except shadows, Mary ended up with some pretty deep gashes in her side. Apparently, Maarek hit one of the 'snake people' causing their personal cloaking device to stop working. Lo and behold ... a Cardassian. Snake people indeed."

"By this point, Mary was becoming delirious, and more and more shadows were coming, which, I assume, meant that more Cardassians were coming. Not good. Mary had resigned herself to what she called the 'grey' death. There was nothing I could do for her, but knew she would be OK if we could only get her to Sickbay. Dr. Drakken is incredible. But, remembering her reaction to when Vec transported her without consent, I felt I needed to get it before doing so."

"We almost lost her in the time it took for me to get an absolute approval, and try to tell her that I was not a 'magic' lady. Just as more phaser fire erupted, we transported to Sickbay. Of course, Dr. Drakken was with the other away team, so we had to deal with the EMH, who barely took notice of us. Once he finally did, it turned out that Mary had been poisoned with a Cardassian toxin. Surprise surprise."

"She is recovering well, though I don't know what is going to happen from here. There is still a matter of the indigenous people who are trapped in the crystal, as well as anything else found by the other away team."

"Computer, End Log."
