Duty Log, Lt. Jen Lee
Stardate 9906.22
"Incoming subspace message from Earth."
Jen, sitting at her desk, skims the paragraph she's reading, and marks the PADD for later reference. While turning to the console, "On screen."
Her mother's beaming face fills the screen. "Hello, my daughter. We have not heard from you in some time. How are you?"
Sighing, and releasing tension she didn't know she held, Jen replied, "Oh, Mom ... it's so good to see you. I'm doing much better now that I am talking to you."
Nodding sagely, "Yes, I know, daughter. I could feel your tension from here. What ever is the matter? It is very rare that I can sense you over such a great distance."
Closing her eyes to compose her thoughts, Jen took a deep breath. "Well, one of the things they tell you at the Acadamy, is that weird is part of the job. I can now attest to that. Yesterday ... now mind you, this is in one shift ..."
Nodding and smiling, Anna Lee can feel her daughter's tensions slowly leaving.
"I'm here in the lab, as I always am. I look up when the doors open. My remaining supervisor disappears in front of my eyes. That's when the red alert went off. I was summonsed to the bridge, where I found out that not only had Sarah been taken, but Vec and Arie too. So, I had to take the Tactical position, as well as the Science position on the bridge. Needless to say, we entered a battle, and though we did get damaged, we weren't killed, and we did rescue our crew. Then, back to the lab. I've never had such a diverse, nerve-wracking day in my life."
Laughing heartily, Anna replies, "Oh, yes you did. You should have felt the thought waves radiating from you the day you were born. Now that day you were quite at odds with your world."
Smiling, and able to at least chuckle, "I can imagine I was. Heck, I'd think anybody would be."
Nodding again, and returning to her motherly role, "I am glad to know what had happened. Now, I suggest you take some time for yourself. You need it. Find your center again. And don't forget to write to your mother."
Smiling, Jen replied, "Of course not." She looks at the chronometer, and realizes it's late in the evening. "I think I'm going to take your advice. Thanks, Mom. I love you!"
