A Joint Log

Jen/Vec

Jen walks into sickbay after her shift, heading over to Vec. "How are you today?"

Vec lies in Sick Bay in a regenerative trance. He looks up, still in a haze. "Hi. Oh, just fine," he states, not even trying to get up.

Not realizing he was sleeping, she apologizes, "Sorry ... I can come back later if you want."

"No, I was just waking up."

She pulls over a chair and sits down. "Any clue as to when you can get out of

here? So you can terrorize the rest of us, not just the med crew?" she says, grinning at him.

"No, they aren't letting me out too soon."

She frowns, "Why not? You're looking pretty healthy to me."

He hands her a technological scan. "I'm still 15% fried," he groans. "And 13% is in my legs, so I can't really walk."

She looks over the data, frowning. "Maybe you should be in engineering instead?"

"I have no power to my lower body."

"Ouch."

He points to the power sleeve by his side, "This lets me make self-repairs."

She nods and says, "Maybe Cai will let you go home for this? Instead of staying in Sickbay? I'm sure it would be nicer to recover at home."

He grabs a PADD "I can leave, but the only way out is to float. If you'd like to take a walk, I can follow."

Grinning, she says, "Well, you do that well. You sure it's OK?"

"No, but I can't get in trouble," he smiles. "I can leave, the Doc said I'm in no trouble of injury."

"OK," she says standing. "Can I carry anything for you?"

He grabs a portable power pack and a sleeve and straps in. "No thanks."

"All right ... let me get the door for you," she says, walking to the main doors in

Sickbay, allowing them to open, while she steps to the side for him to pass.

He hops off the bed and begins to float behind Jen. "This is a feeling I haven't had in a while, I don't normally do this."

They make their way to his quarters, where she stops. "Hit your code to go on in. Well, at least you've still got mobility."

"Computer, Open the damn doors, NOW!" He smiles as the door opens and he floats on in. "That helps after a long day on the bridge. I get it all out before the kids get here."

She grins at him, then follows him into his quarters. "Speaking of the kids, where are they?"

"Jim's watching them until I'm better." He looks around his room, "Well, it's good to be home Lt."

"Why don't you settle yourself in? Want me to replicate you some dinner?"

He smiles, "Sounds good." He floats off in to his bed room, then comes back out with a pillow and a blanket.

She goes over to the replicator, getting a plateful of fettuccini Alfredo and some garlic bread, then brings it over to the coffee table.

He looks at her incredulously. "Like I'm not sick enough you bring me heart attack on a platter," he says in straight face fighting off laughter.

She looks at him and sternly says, "Sit down, shut up and EAT."

He smiles, "You've got me out ranked, you win." He begins to eat slowly at first, but then speeds up.

She goes back to the replicator, bringing back a pitcher of ice cold water and two glasses, then sits across from him. She takes a glass of water and sits back, watching him devour his meal.

He smiles, "Computer, 1 bubbly, 1 big dipper, and a long screw."

Her eyebrow raises, "Excuse me?"

He watches a bottle of bubbling wine pop up in a bucket of ice with a cork screw in the top. "Had ya didn't I?"

She rolls her eyes, still drinking her water.

"Well, they took me off the pain killers, the wine and the jokes both help to substitute."

"It still hurts a lot?"

"Not a lot, but it still hurts."

"Well, I'm sure with a lot of sleep and rest, you'll be up and back to normal in no time."

He smiles, "Me, normal? Never!"

She grins, "Well, normal for you ... not normal in the general scheme of things, of course."

He finishes the meal and takes a sip of the wine.

"It's good to see your appetite is still healthy. Want anything else?" she asks as she collects his plates and tosses them into the reclimator.

He smiles, "One of everything. I'll eat later."

Chuckling, she sits back down. "Well, when you're hungry, you can go on back over there. I don't have the 29.6 hours to replicate one of everything and bring it over for you."

He leans back on the couch with the pillow under his head and the blanket over his body. He switches repairing power packs, as this one is starting to run low.

She holds out her hand for the drained power pack, "Want me to charge that up for you?"

He smiles, "What ever floats your boat."

She sighs, power pack in hand, and sits on the back of the couch, looking down at him. "I'm just trying to help. I hope you know that."

He frowns a little. "I know, and I'm sorry for being in a bad mood. But, I just shot and a little confused, and frustrated at not being able to walk yet."

She reaches down, smoothing the hair away from his forehead, "Yeah, I know. It's rough. But remember you've got friends here who care. We'll do all we can to help you heal."

He frowns, his face fading a little, the expressions mixed up. He turns on the new power pack, realizing he never did. The power surge forces his implants to momentarily cloak then re appear.

"Is something else bothering you?"

He rolls his eyes. "I used to love that feeling, now it's creepy. I can't figure out what happened over there. I remember being hurt worse that I was, broken ribs, etc."

She smiles down at him, "Well, you've let your Human/Klingon/Betazed side show for a long time. You felt more injuries than you actually sustained?"

"But, I don't have any recently broken ribs. No, that's not it. I remember more, I can visualize each one. I talked to Ariell, but we had some problems, so I have to see her again."

Jen puts the power pack down, and concentrates on his story. She takes the clips out of her hair, freeing it from her normal on-duty bun. "What kind of problems?"

"We were beginning to get some where, and all the sudden a stray nano-probe forced my implants to block my telepathic centers, we both got thrown out of an 'inner quest'."

"Hmm. I don't know what to make of that. What did she say?"

"She said, I should see her, perhaps I wasn't ready to go though the quest yet."

Jen nods, thinking. "I'm sure it could be quite a powerful thing to go through. When you're ready, you'll do it."

"I wish I could just forget it all happened."

With that, Jen realizes that he'd fallen asleep. She tucks the blanket around him and lowers the lights before letting herself out. "Sleep well, and get better," she whispers as she leaves.
