Jen's Holodeck Training Program

A Joint Log

Jen/Sarah

Jen sits in her office, finishing the last of her reports. After bringing them to the data transfer point, she looks around and notices that Science isn't at the frenetic pace it has been at. She walks over to where Sarah is working.

Sarah looks up from her work as she approaches. "Hey, whad'ya think of this?" She hands Jen the PADD she has been studying.

Coming to rest next to Sarah's desk, Jen leans against it and takes the PADD that was handed to her. She looks at it, then tosses it onto the desk, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I don't know about you, but I need a break from here."

Sarah chuckles. "That works."

Jen looks up to Sarah, and suggests, "Why don?t we head over to the holodeck. I remember you always saying that you'd like more help with your aim in possible combat situations. I think I have the perfect program to accomplish this. Never mind that it's fun." Jen's eyes twinkle.

"Sounds good to me," Sarah replies, amused. She cleans up her workstation a bit and stands. ?Ready when you are . . . Sir." Sarah grins.

They walk out of Science and to the holodeck. Jen punches up the program, and they walk in. She picks up two water guns, one brown and one pink, and hands the pink one to Sarah. "OK. You have to shoot with this gun. It's filled with pink lemonade. Mine is filled with coffee. Each of the figures that will come out has a target on it in the same place. They will either like coffee, or pink lemonade. If they like the beverage, by hitting the target with said beverage will make them stronger. But, if they are of the opposite ilk, it will kill them. Of course, to help your cause, good aim helps always. Any questions?"

Listening to Jen's explanation, Sarah struggles to keep a straight face. "So how do we know which they like?" She takes the pink lemonade gun.

"Well, if you hit the target, and the figure grows in stature, then it's on your side. If it begins to shrivel up, it's on the other side. And, it's not like we are going to have only one at a time. We'll have several targets at once. And if a figure from the other side touches you, the game is over." Jen grins, knowing this will release a lot of tension.

"Wait, so are we only supposed to shoot the ones on the opposite side, or what? I'm confused."

"That's where strategy comes in, Sarah. If you just shoot the ones that are your foe, granted, there's less of a chance they'll get all the way to you. But, if you see I'm killing one from your side, you may want to give it some juice, so another can try to get me."

Sarah mulls this over for a minute. "Okay, I think I get it. What happens if we run out of ammo?"

"Well, for this go round, we'll have an unlimited supply. But, if we decide to play again, or just want to up the stakes, we can have a refueling station, where once you've used up 5 gallons of your beverage, you have to go refuel."

Sarah nods. "Okay, got it."

Jen motions for Sarah to join her in the middle of a green field, which has a tree border approximately 1000 feet away in each direction. Pointing to the trees, she says, "They'll come from there. I think these things have a range of like 850 feet or something."

"Wow. Okay." She follows Jen to the center of the field.

"Of course though, the farther away, the less powerful the spray. Therefore, it does less damage or good as the case may be."

"Right."

Taking a deep breath, she holds the gun at the ready and says to Sarah, "Ready?"

Sarah raises her gun, pointing it toward the line of trees. "As ready as I'm gonna be."
