Dear Mom,

As you can see, I'm bucking the whole technology thing today, to actually write you a letter. I remember how important it is to you that we kids have good penmanship! Granted, I am getting some odd looks as I do this, since no one writes letters longhand anymore - it's always via sub-space message.

Why odd looks? Well, that's because I'm sitting on the promenade with parchment and quill in hand. I've made some friends since I have accepted this assignment. My one friend, Vec (Lieutenant Junior Grade Ikuru Vectra - see? Vec - much easier!) has tried to get me out more. So, instead of getting ink all over my quarters from Ophelia playing with the inkwell, I thought I'd sit out here, people-watch, and write.

Since my new friendships are about the only thing interesting in my life (I know how much you love - haha - hearing about my job) I guess you'll get to "meet" them now. My first friend here, was Vec. We met in the messhall one night. He's qutie a character. He seems to have a little bit of everything in him, species-wise - even BORG! I helped him out during his partial de-BORG-ifyication. They weren't able to get everything out, but a lot. I think he's happier now.

I just got back from a party (yes, I went to a party) in ten forward. It was fun. I rescued our new Chief of Security, Mr. Quell from his office, and we joined the festivities. Our Chief Medical Officer was bartending - the poor man was running back and forth trying to serve everyone at once. Maybe he could have, had he grown a few more arms for himself!

Have I told you we've got a Brikar on board? Man, those guys are HUGE! Taz (sorry, I don't think I could pronounce, let alone spell his full name!) ended up helping the doc behind the bar, and I must say - he makes a mean Loethorian Fizz!

We're getting new crewmembers in every day, it seems! I was introduced to our new Conn officer, though unfortunately, I don't remember his name - sorry about that! I promise, on top of getting out more, I'm going to make it a point to remember people's names, too!

Well, I suppose I should go. One question though. Why is it you like handwritten letters? Other than penmanship, of course. I have the feeling you think you might pick up some residual images from such a long exposure to our hands. I don't think it would work, but know that what you'd be picking up from me right now, is happiness, and the enormous love I feel for you!

Love,

Your Daughter,

Jen
