Security Training

One of the things I most enjoy about Starfleet life is the diversity in the workplace. This past week, we ran drills in the holodeck, where we were placed in a battle situation, at posts we normally wouldn't occupy. After reaching some point in the simulation, we would stop, be critiqued, then switch to a new position.

During one simulation, I was the imaginary XO. My goodness, but they have a lot of information to process at once. Needless to say, between being nervous, and not being familiar with the console, I didn't process the information quickly enough. We lost shields, were boarded, our helmsman was caught by the Breen ... I deflated fairly quickly.

Another simulation had me at Security. ::chuckles and shakes her head slightly:: Isn't that just too funny? Almost as good as me at helm. Not only didn't I send out security details to the correct places, but I failed to lock out bridge control from enemy use. So, the Breen entered the bridge, and we were forced into some hand-to-hand combat. Again, I didn't wield my Bat'leth with much skill, but I got the job done.

Thankfully, things in Science aren't nearly as confusing. Well, to me anyway. ::smiles:: My assistants and I have been discussing the possibility of modifying a runabout for Science purposes. I've just begun speaking to Captain Quatto and Commander St. Dieux about it, and it looks promising. ::sighs:: Saying it gets approved, we will have a lot of work on our hands figuring out how best to use the interior space, getting Engineering to find time to help us, having Security make sure we won't be blown out of space, and actually be able to use the thing.

I have begun discussions with them about the possibility of creating a submersible vessel for the study of oceans. That is going to take even more time, due to the fact that there isn't a shell we can start with. I'm going to have to sit down with Major Kinkaid and discuss that one ... I have an idea of what we want it to do, but no clue how to make it feasible.
