Personal Log, Ensign Jen Lee

USS Calytresmane

Entering the communal Ensign's quarters, Jen goes to her bunk and sits down, yanking her boots off her swollen feet. She grabs her shower necessities, and cleans the day's coffee off of herself. Donning her Starfleet issue nightwear, she crawls into bed and wills herself to sleep. As she slides into sleep, a dream begins to form, one of her greatest fantasies. Little does she know, she is actually glimpsing an alternate universe.

She sits behind a desk, covered with PADDs, and she works happily through them all, even with constant interruptions from others. Every time someone comes in, they always have a smile on their face. The part of Jen's mind that is just an observer, cringes that she is sitting here at the Chief's desk. That could get her bumped back to Crewman. Hesitatingly, she raises her hand to her neck, and finds that the pips are that of a First Lieutenant.

Happy for the moment, she recedes in this "new" Jen's mind, and just watches her work. Unbelievably, this Jen is the Chief, and Sarah works under her. Giggling softly to herself, she can't believe they are even friends. The entire lab looks the same, yet different. There are a lot more people here, and everyone seems to be happy. Even people of different ranks get along.

They walk down the corridor with a PADD for Dr. Drakken. Upon entering Sickbay, a very warm friendly conversation ensues between Jen, Drakken and Cailet. At the sight of Cailet, Ensign Jen shrinks farther away, trying to hide. But eventually, she creeps closer to the surface, and realizes that here too, is only friendliness. She sighs, "If only it were really like that."

The Red Alert klaxon sounds once, signaling the time for the Ensigns to rise for their next duty shift. Jen sits bolt upright in bed, a pang of loneliness in her heart. The only time she is truly happy is when asleep, and she can dream herself into a world of happiness and good.
